Hanging out in someone’s home watching their favorite TV show. Creating prompting materials to spark a different kind of conversation. Illustrating an idea and garnering reactions. Making over a dull office space into a photo gallery and exhibition hall. All to better understand the experience of being a discouraged worker and to generate a range of alternative supports.
Sound like the types of things you’d like to spend your time doing?
We’re on the hunt for a Design Apprentice in Peterborough, Ontario. Spend six-weeks immersed in live project work and sampling a ground-up way of working. Read the job description here.
Here at InWithForward, Grounded Change is what gets us out of bed in the morning. And we want to find other people who feel a similar compulsion to learn and stretch themselves. We’re really trying to spread a way of working that is fast-paced, unpredictable, and hopefully a little big magical. That’s how it feels when you are part of a team that clicks, and draws on people’s full selves: their motivations, ideas, capabilities, etc.
We’ve been experimenting with ways to build and support magical teams. In Peterborough, we are taking on a coaching role. That means the project, ReMaking a Living, is led by a forward-thinking local organization – Community Opportunity & Innovation Network (COIN) – and we offer guidance, reference points, access to all of our past materials, and a weekly feedback session. We are not in the drivers seat – the local team is – but we (hopefully) help you feel part of a bigger methodology, narrative, and network of folks.
This is iteration two of the Peterborough team. We’ve been learning a lot about who is the right fit, and how to provide the right kind of support. In the first iteration, we didn’t offer the Designer enough opportunities for direct coaching. We will this time!
If you are a designer who is interested in the social space, and haven’t had a chance to do REAL project work that starts with REAL people experiencing some REAL pain points than this is your chance.
You’ll need to be someone who is a humble learner, but confident in your listening and making abilities. This is a role that is about making things tangible. So you’ll be adept at creating everything from flyers to posters to illustrations to spaces – but doing so from the perspective of the people you meet on the ground.
Have a read of the job description and get in touch. We are looking for someone to start AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
